“Knowledge is an Attribute (Sifaat) of our Majestic Creator and is therefore perfect and has no end to it.”
Why I Write…
I have decided to create this website primarily to make the various articles I have written available to people who have an interest in Tasawuf (Sufism). Because these articles have been written over a period of several years they cover my personal journey from the time I attached myself to the illustrious personality of Shaykh Hazem Abu Ghazalah (RA), up until the present.
The Big Bang

We are instructed to reflect and ponder on creation, if we wish to get closer to Allah SWT – through this, we will uncover some of the Divine mysteries and secrets of how
things were created.
A most awesome and mind-blowing experience is to go on a journey of how this Universe came into existence. Through years of research, scientists and cosmologists have discovered some truly amazing facts about the universe. Much of what they have only recently discovered, are accurately spoken about in the holy Quran, which came down more than 1400 years ago.
The World was created in 6 Days
A Word by the Author
In the holy Quran, it is stated that Allah SWT created the world in six days. Yet we know that time and space can never apply to Allah SWT. It is essential for us accept what is stated in the Quran and at the same time not interpret it in a way that conflicts with Tawhid.
Days should thus not be interpreted literally. Some could falsely reason and say it is not an Earthly day but a day that is linked to Allah’s existence. That would still imply the elapse of “time”. Time in whatever form can never be applicable to our Majestic Creator. A more acceptable
understanding could be that it refers to specific periods or defined phases. Even this would only refer to the manifestation of how and when certain events occurred in the material world.
I have tried to identify the six distinctive periods of how the universe came into existence.

Predestination & Choice
A Word by the Author
The concept of pre-destination and choice may be difficult to understand properly on their own. If not understood correctly, it may negatively impact on our entire belief system. It constitutes a pillar of Iman.
Because of its complexity, we have been advised not to delve too deeply into these matters. None in the entire creation can have an absolute understanding of why Allah has destined matters in a specific way. The reasons or justification as to what,
why and how Allah SWT decrees can only be fully known to the All-knowing, Himself. That knowledge is off limits to us. He the Almighty is answerable to none!
Our minds are not able to fathom matters of the subtle unseen world; which means that logic alone is not enough to understand all the complexities of predestination.
Only the Creator of everything knows everything, about everything!
Aayatul Kursiy
A Word by the Author
The importance and benefit of this Ayah, is confirmed in several places in the Quran and Sunnah and is commonly known as ‘the verse of the Throne’. Reciting it regularly has enormous benefits. The reward of its recitation is nothing less than paradise.
Why is this Ayah given such an elevated rank? Because it represents pure Tawhid. If one recites it with understanding and
sincerity, then the reward cannot be measured. Each of the nine sentences has a deep and profound meaning which has endless, ascending layers upon layers of understanding. The ability to understand with the mind, cuts off at a certain point – it is only with the purified heart that one
can comprehend beyond that point.
The state of purity of the heart, determines the readiness and capacity to comprehend and witness some of the inner meanings of what is contained in this verse. Each of the sentences, refer to the Divine Attributes and Divine Names of our most glorious Creator, which are all absolutely perfect, and limitless. The Divine Names and Divine Attributes are mentioned several times, in this short verse.
Seven Valleys
A Word by the Author
What I am attempting to present here, is a simplified and summarised version of
“Minhajul Abideen” written by Imam Al Ghazali (RA) – the complete works are
very detailed and specific.
There is no way that I can do justice to these works, so I am merely laying a basis
to encourage the reader to work systematically through the complete book. It is truly a book that will find relevance throughout one’s life, no matter what stage or age you are.
Imam Ghazali has given a very detailed and precise, practical description on what
to expect on the path to Paradise. The Holy Prophet (SAW) has warned us that the path to Jannah is on a sharp incline and that Jahannum is on a smooth and even
surface. One must therefore be prepared for varying degrees of difficulties, tests and
challenges on the road to Jannah.
Imam Ghazali has divided this journey into seven distinct Phases. At each stage he has identified a specific set of obstacles. If one is not able to overcome these, then one will not be able to advance to the next level. He has presented us with, what one can call an obstacle course. He has broken this up into seven distinct Valleys. For the seeker this can be used as a handbook. What makes it unique is how it can be used to implement it practically in one’s daily life, regardless of what stage you are in on the path of truth.
The Imam (RA) gives practical advice and makes several suggestions on what to do
if one gets stuck along the way. If one is not able to overcome the specific hurdles of a particular Valley, then one could be stuck in that Valley forever. One’s travel on the road to Allah could then stop there.
May the Almighty shower His choicest blessings on the respected Imam Ghazali
(RA), our beloved Prophet SAW and my Murshid – Shaykh Hazem Abu Ghazaleh.
I pray for forgiveness for all the mistakes and errors that are contained in this
document.
